Наряду с библейскими переводами Т. Г. Чугунова рассматривает обширное наследие богослова, его реформаторские и полемические сочинения, неизвестные отечественному читателю. Особое внимание уделяется анализу и интерпретации учения английского мыслителя, в идейном наследии которого нашли отражение характерные особенности европейского гуманистического и реформационного движения. По мнению автора, существующие в историографии образы Тиндела достаточно противоречивы (Тиндел-лютеранин, Тиндел-гуманист, Тиндел-виклифит), поэтому в настоящем исследовании предпринята попытка исключить крайности в подходе к данному вопросу и определить степень зависимости религиозно-политических доктрин английского теолога от построений европейских реформаторов и гуманистов. В книге изучается отношение английского теолога к крупнейшим политическим событиям и социально-экономическим явлениям эпохи. На примере анализа жизни и деятельности У. Тиндела освещается важный этап истории Англии XVI в. На страницах предлагаемой вниманию читателей книги также представлена целая плеяда реформаторов — современников богослова. Их идеи, творческие искания и устремления составляют ту уникальную духовную среду, в которой жил, боролся и создавал свои произведения У. Тиндел.
